So I went out and got myself a mac. Have been a PC boy (no way a fanboy) for the best part of forever and this was my first mac purchase. The reason – iPhone development. We have a couple of iPhone application projects at work coming in and I’m keen to do them. I’ve been wanting to get into mobile development for ages and this is a good break.
We’ve been lucky enough to become beta testers for CS5 which allows you to create iPhone applications using flash. We all had a go and yeah – it worked out okay. The only real problem being that all the UI components such as scroll bars, textfields etc all have to be rewritten when you develop in CS5. With objective c and Xcode its all there for you – you just may have the massive learning code of what is Objective C – my first impressions… Crazy.
Anyhow – I wrote a simple HelloWorld app today by following this guy tutorial on YouTube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFxhr04thw4&feature=related. He kind of whizzes through the whole without telling us what is going on but I didn’t mind much as I just wanted to get something out. The real learning curve here though was getting it on to your phone. Apple have made a real process here and it felt like it’s easier to open a bank account. This guy gives a great guide on how to do it – in real simple terms – big thanks to him.
I’ve got a long to go before I’m making my millions but I’ll be posting updates here which I hope helps some people out. I’ll try and keep this post updated with new links as well if they’re applicable else check for other posts.
